Student Training: Operating the Lifts

Workin' It

There are three lifts in the building that people may need your help to operate. They are located outside the 2nd floor inside doors, outside the lecture halls 231 and 152. They are very important for accessibility but they're not super intuitive or user friendly. Here's how it goes:

  • You have to push a button to get the door to open. People will often come up and ask for a key because they can't open the door and think it's locked.
  • To open the door, push the button of the floor you're on. II is essentially the second floor and I is first floor.
  • Next step is be patient! There is a bit of a delay between the button being pushed and the door opening.
  • Once the up or down button is pushed the door will shut again (it will also shut on its own after a certain length of time).
  • When you're ready to travel, again patience is important! Push and HOLD the button of the floor you want to go to. It's not like an elevator and won't respond to just one button push.
  • While the lift is traveling, if you stop holding the button the lift will stop where it is and you will have to push and hold the button again.
  • Once it's at its destination, the door will open and eventually close on its own.

WARNING: THE LIFTS ARE SLOW. PATIENCE IS KEY
