Research Process: A Step-By-Step Guide: Step 2: Locate Information

This guide walks you through the steps of the research process.

Locating Information

Before starting your research, it's important to understand the types of information sources available. They include:

To create the most effective and efficient searches, utilize the search strategies listed under step 2f.

Off-Campus Access

The Library provides students with remote access to journals, magazines, newspapers, e-books, audiobooks, and more.

When accessing these resources from off-campus you will be prompted for a username and password. If you don't know your login information, simply click Get a New Password and follow the instructions.  Call the Ask Here desk if you have any questions or problems: 406-657-1662 or library@msubillings.edu.

You can also reset your password here.  Note: Resetting your password to access library resources also resets your password for D2L, campus computer logins, and campus email. These passwords will all be the same after you reset it.

Types of Periodicals

Interlibrary Loan

If you come across materials you need for your research and the Library does not own it, request it through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. Click here to create an ILL account. This is a free service to students. For more information, call 406-657-1666.
