New York Times Academic Access

Digital access for MSUB students, faculty, and staff.

Account FAQs

I already have a personal New York Times subscription. Can I still get free access through the MSUB Library?

Yes! Start by cancelling your personal subscription by connecting with a chat agent on the NYT site or calling 800-698-4637. Then, go through the activation process, but during step 4, select "Log in" instead of "Create an account." Input the email and password from your old account, even if it's not an @msubillings.edu email address.

Who can create an NYT account through the MSUB Library subscription?

To register, you must be a current MSUB student, faculty, or staff member with a valid NetID. Emeritus faculty are included.

I am an MSUB alumnus. Do I have access?

Unfortunately, only current students and faculty/staff can create accounts. This is because the library's subscription is supported by student fee moneys.

How long does my access continue?

Faculty/staff accounts must be reactivated/renewed every 4 years. Student accounts expire at graduation.

How do I reactivate/renew my account?

Go through the activation process, but during step 4, select "Log in" instead of "Create an account." Input the email and password for your existing account.

I'm getting an "Unauthorized Network Connection" error message. What should I do?

You may see this message if you connecting through a VPN. Disconnect from the VPN and try again.
