Native American Studies: Little Shell Chippewa Tribe

While the Little Shell Chippewa are a federally recognized tribe, they do not have a federally recognized reservation. The majority of the tribe is concentrated in Great Falls and Helena, with their tribal headquarters in Great Falls. When searching for books about the tribe, try using these different search terms:

Author Spotlight

Chris La Tray is a Métis storyteller, a descendent of the Pembina Band of the mighty Red River of the North and an enrolled member of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He writes the weekly newsletter "An Irritable Métis" and lives near Frenchtown, Montana. He is the Montana Poet Laureate for 2023–2025.
